Eagle Creek & Dog Mountain
Two of the most beautiful trails in the Gorge are fifteen minutes from the door. Pack a thermos; go early.
The Cedar House sits at the end of a quiet road, about a hundred yards from a trailhead that climbs through second-growth fir toward the river. The exterior is unfinished cedar that has weathered into a soft grey; the interior is warm white oak, wool, and big windows that pull the forest inside.
A wood-burning stove anchors the living room. The deck wraps two sides of the house and looks out over the canopy — coffee in the morning, hot tub at night, the river somewhere in the distance. There is no television in the main room; there are books, a record player, and a long table built for slow dinners.
We restored the cabin in 2021 with help from a local builder and a friend who designs hotels for a living. It sleeps six comfortably across three bedrooms. We host here ourselves a few weekends a year — everything in the house is something we use and love.

We've stayed in enough rentals to know what gets used and what collects dust. The kitchen is fully equipped because we cook here. The Wi-Fi is fast because one of us works remote. The bedding is the same we keep at home.
A short list of things we actually do when we're up here. Ask us for more — we'll point you to the good stuff.

Orchards, cideries, and a handful of small wineries on the Fruit Loop. Downtown Hood River has a proper dinner scene.
Skiing at Meadows in 45 minutes. Kiteboarding on the river in summer. Both visible from the deck on a clear day.

"Worked remote from the desk for three days then took the kids hiking. The Wi-Fi was better than at home, and the bunk room was a hit. We're already planning a return."
"Quiet road, real coffee, a stack of vinyl, and the best linen sheets I've slept on in any rental. The owners left a hand-drawn map of their favorite trail — we did all four."
